Is he done breastfeeding?

Since about 9 months of age, my toddler has been showing signs he’s done nursing. There were many days I would have to coax him to nurse, as I wasn’t ready for him to be done. We did that on and off until here were are, at 19 months old. He nurses most nights before bed, but won’t always, and doesn’t seem to mind at all when I’m not the one to put him to bed, so we skip. But with big brothers back in school I’m hopeful even the little bit he gets helps him fight off some of those germs.

Last weekend, he got stung on the lip by a wasp. Ouch! He recovered very nicely, but I could tell it hurt. Especially when he tried to suck from a straw. When it came to nursing, he wouldn’t. It wasn’t just not interested as it has been for awhile, but it hurt. So I didn’t push it of course. Here we are a week later, lip healed, and he won’t have anything to do with it.

I don’t know what I was expecting to be the end of our breastfeeding, but I sure didn’t expect it to be a wasp! We’ll see how this next week goes before I declare done for good…

We want to know what you think!
